(Originally posted in the PW Pub, which asploded when the backup server crashed. All the posts from December 16 disappeared, including some by yours truly. Most were crossed from here; no great loss. This one, by dicentra, I salvaged from my g00gle reader, because it's chock full of good links.)
To waste your time and expand your mind:
- Dark Roasted Blend — “Weird and Wonderful Things”; cool photos if nothing else
- The List Universe — Nicely researched collections of odd facts and “best ofs”
- Somchai’s Flickr Photostream — Dude in Thailand shoots wonderful photos of exotic birds. My favorites are the kingfishers.
Proof that on the Internet, there is a blog for everything:
- Cake Wrecks — “When Professional Cakes Go Horribly, Hilariously Wrong”
- W/Extra Duck — A Flickr site dedicated to adding rubber duckies to classic paintings. Don’t know what we did without them.
- Passive-Aggressive Notes — When you’re too cheap for Hallmark and too cowardly for face-to-face. Admit it: you’ve either written one of these or totally wanted to.
- COLOURlovers — For chromatophiles, color schemes and nothing else.
- Cats in Sinks — “It’s about cats. In sinks.”
- The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks — For grammar Nazis like me and the people who are annoyed by us.
Word and Other Games (Caution: Highly Addictive to Language Geeks!)
- cryptograms.org — Quotations from all over the quotatosphere; ranging from easy to very difficult
- “Boggle” Online — They have to call it “Wordtwist” to avoid the lawyers
- acrostics.org — Fun, but after awhile you see the same ones over and over
- Best Crosswords — Yours truly wrote some of the clues; look for oblique Monty Python references
- JigZone — Jigsaw puzzles to play while listening to phone conferences with your client. Recommended: the 91-piece lizard cut.
- MSNBC Daily Crossword — This puzzle is found in several locations; new one every day. Don’t forget to click “disable fly-out” in the left column before beginning, or a stray mouse could erase all your work.
