Rush Limbaugh's Challenge to Liberals, eloquently expressed by...the LA Times.

Challenge? Of what challenge do you speak?

An editorial column in yesterday's LA Times by Andrew Klavan puts the Limbaugh Challenge right on the front stoop of one of the most liberal newspapers in the nation. That challenge..

Take the Limbaugh Challenge

Liberals who hate Rush Limbaugh -- why don't you actually listen to his show before bashing him?

If you are reading this newspaper, the likelihood is that you agree with the Obama administration's recent attacks on conservative radio talker Rush Limbaugh. That's the likelihood; here's the certainty: You've never listened to Rush Limbaugh.

Oh no, you haven't. Whenever I interrupt a liberal's anti-Limbaugh rant to point out that the ranter has never actually listened to the man, he always says the same thing: "I've heard him!"
Most likely what they've heard is the snarling spittle-flecked responses from Rush's detractors (including White House Obama cabinet members, and similar left-wingers who've taken their talking points from media voices. Oh, and perhaps from some so-called 'moderate' Republicans (David Frum, Kathleen Parker and others infected with the Republirhinovirus) come to mind. Oh, and the latest lefty darling, that bimbo Meghan McCain (for whom I had this advice: "If you really love this country, then join the service, like your father did. Earn some honor; garner some respect. Because now you have neither." Harrumph).

Back to that LAT column (getting close to the best part ):
By lifting some typically Rushian piece of outrageous hilarity completely out of context, the distortion gang knows full well it can get you to widen your eyes and open your mouth in the universal sign of Liberal Outrage. Your scrawny chest swelling with a warm sense of completely unearned righteousness, you will turn to your second spouse and say, "I'm not a liberal, I'm a moderate, and I'm tolerant of a wide range of differing views -- but this goes too far!"

There is more untruthfulness in that statement than in a speech by President Obama. Even the commas are self-deceiving. You're not a moderate or you wouldn't be reading this newspaper. You're not tolerant of a wide range of views; you are tolerant of a narrow spectrum of variations on your views. And, whatever you claim, you still haven't listened to Rush Limbaugh.

Which leads to a question: Why not? I mean, come on, the guy's one of the figures of the age. Aren't you even curious? I listen to all your guys: NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, The Times, the New York Times, the New Yorker -- I check out the whole left-wing hallelujah chorus. Why are you afraid to spend a couple of hours listening to Limbaugh's show and seriously considering if and why you disagree with him?
That's a question every liberal will have to answer for herself. But this, now, this answer from Andrew Klavan is worth bolding and offsetting and, really, putting on it's own pedestal. Ready to have your lefty head asplode? Now, again, why do liberals not listen to Rush Limbaugh?
Now let me tell you the real answer: You're a lowdown, yellow-bellied, lily-livered intellectual coward. You're terrified of finding out he makes more sense than you do.
(Yes, emboldenings are mine. To make sure you see it.)

This, printed in yesterday's LA Times.

I wonder how many lib'ruls are picketing the joint this morning? Calling and canceling their subscriptions? Let's hope quite a few.

Occasionally, the MSM gets something right. Rarely so, now, but when they do, I'll be the first (well, second: you didn't think I'd read the LA Times, now did you? ) to acknowledge it.

Priceless.

A Tale of Two First Ladies: Times Online disses M'chelle; awestruck by Carla Bruni-Sarkozy

Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is the wife (since February '08) of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, his third. No stranger to beautiful models, Sarko married Carla after a three-month whirlwind engagement.

Carla has had her share of love and affairs - Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, and a host of others. Born in Italy, Carla is a former model, now a singer and songwriter; heiress to a fortune (her grandfather sold his CEAT tire business to Pirelli). Carla is famous for her affairs, publicly espousing polygamy and polyandry, and is quoted as saying "I want an man with nuclear power." Well, there you go.

How in the world, you ask, did TimesOnline dis Michelle Obama? Well, it's nuanced but unmistakable. See that little box, there, to the left? You'll find it on this page (I can't link directly, because it's a Java pop-up.)

Go through the pictures of the Wives - Girlfriends (WAGs?) of the G20 summit leaders. Scroll to #17, Michelle Obama.

Compare that to the other pics of wives, girlfriends, all displayed with tact and...decorum.

Here's another picture of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, from her modeling days. Yes, I've modified the picture just a bit; there's not another one like it on the 'net.

This for RS McCain's "Rule 5 Sunday" series of pulchritudinous links.

I can't resist; here's the TimesOnline pics of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and

...our...First Lady.

Digging in the shrubbery.

Could they find a less flattering photo?
I suppose I should be somewhat livid, but, well, no.

Lying Liars and the Lies they tell: WHERE'S MY TAX CUT, OBAMA ??!!? (and introducing EPIC FAIL: The Carter Challenge)

Obama's Shattered Dreams. To have lied, or to be clueless; either way, not very Presidential.

No, he probably knew he couldn't cut taxes, but he lied anyway, that's my take. How could he possibly have been so clueless, especially being a well-educated, hyper-articulated Harvard type who studied for years to become qualified for the U.S. Presidency, the most important job in the world? How could he have missed this?

Via HotAir..

Poll: Despite Obama’s stumping, support for budget drops five points

Well, it's about time. The Beltway is waking up to the realities of President Obama's budget plan, which taxes, spends, and borrows as far as the eye can see. The president's vast new commitments in the areas of health care, energy, and education have already spooked small-government Republicans and the foreign investors who help finance America's public debt. Now even some Democrats are beginning to realize that the president's fiscal policies are unsustainable in the long--and maybe medium--run. What took them so long?

The realities of the modern global economy require government to play a substantial role in ensuring the national and economic security of the people. Americans aren't going to dismantle the welfare state. Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are--like the Pentagon--here to stay. The task, then, is to ensure that those programs are sensibly structured and financed, and compatible with robust economic growth. And on this score, Obama's budget is a big, fat failure.
Hmmm..Obama's policies are failing. That's good for the nation's long-term survival. I wanted his policies to fail, given they were dangerously far-lefty and doomed our U.S. to socialism.

This last line is a puzzle..
If not, conservatives have a real opportunity to introduce a truly responsible vision of a welfare state that maximizes efficiency and growth. The budget outline that House Republicans released last week is a start, but it sure could use some work. And if the president persists in giving America a big and slothful government rather than a limited and energetic one, then it will be incumbent on Republicans and sensible Democrats in Congress to stop him.
What, pray tell, is a responsible version of a welfare state? A welfare state is a failed state. A responsible party platform would seek to employ every able-bodied person, and diminish the need for dole.

And 'persists'? Persists? Obama has a challenge, now; to fail in a new and exciting way: to not FAIL as did Jimmy Carter.

It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.

Obama just can’t stand to be compared to Carter, so he’ll want to redefine FAIL in his own high-drama fashion.

No, a garden variety Hostage Crisis, some pre-teen double-digit inflation and vapid ‘energy conservation’ failures are just not going to be good enough for our ambitious Prezzydent. Look for a major international crisis where we, the U.S., will wind up soundly routed; up in the high-teens (or near-drinking age) hyperinflation numbers (and the corresponding Misery Index of Champions), and Cap and Trade (the Al Gore misanthropic dream!) energy legislation to pass; all of which will propel Obama up to the level of epic FAIL. We know he’s capable of that. He's trained for it, after all.

All in four years! The ‘Carter Challenge’!

On cowardly punks (and Democrats who hate the rich, the successful, and the Constitution)

Robert Stacey McCain gets quote of the day:

A cowardly punk never admires or strives to emulate success, but always envies and resents it. The punk's habitual modus operandi is to encourage others to join his efforts to undermine the prestige and authority of successful leadership. The punk assembles a coalition of losers, an army of naysayers who sit around griping and grumbling about everything, telling each other how unfairly they've been treated, and blaming all their woes on the successful people.

Does this not sound exactly like angry Democrats act and sound? Especially when they sit around bashing their betters.

Also: The left and anti-Semitism

Old Media's deteriorating before our very eyes.

It's Pipe Layin' Dan's birthday. Before our very ides. Happy b-day, Dan~!

Drug tests for welfare recipients? Yes! TANSTAAFL! (And, it's For the CHILDREN!)

West Virginia and other states are considering legislation to mandate random drug testing for recipients of both federal and state social 'rescue' programs: Food Assistance (AKA food stamps), unemployment benefits and other social welfare programs.

Finally. Finally. Finally. No more sitting at home stoned and getting a free ride at taxpayer's expense. No more harming your children while on government assistance.

From Yahoo, this AP story...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Want government assistance? Just say no to drugs.

Lawmakers in at least eight states want recipients of food stamps, unemployment benefits or welfare to submit to random drug testing.

The effort comes as more Americans turn to these safety nets to ride out the recession. Poverty and civil liberties advocates fear the strategy could backfire, discouraging some people from seeking financial aid and making already desperate situations worse.

Those in favor of the drug tests say they are motivated out of a concern for their constituents' health and ability to put themselves on more solid financial footing once the economy rebounds. But proponents concede they also want to send a message: you don't get something for nothing.

West Virginia State Rep. Craig Blair has a web page "Not With My Tax Dollars!!!" that's following West Virginia HB 3007's progress through the legislative process.

This is a well-written proposal; it's enactment would do much to restore taxpayer's faith to a, well, necessary social stopgap. Personally, I don't mind giving up my hard-earned tax dollars to needy people; but I resent - no, hate - the thought that these dollars are going to drug users. While I'm working my ass off to provide for these criminals, they are sitting at home, stoned, watching cartoons. Enough.

Even some Democrats in West Virginia's State House are attached to this bill. Wow.

This, from sponsor Rep. Craig Blair's website..
Attention Illicit Drug Users: Do You Want to Get your Life Back and Quit Now but You Need Help?
Dial this Number on Any Phone: 211 [works only in West Virginia - .ed]

Nowhere in our state or U.S. constitutions is it mandated that financial assistance is a right. Make no mistake, it is a privilege afforded to those in need by the taxpayers via our federal and state governments. Also, unemployment compensation premiums are currently paid by the employer, not the employee; however that may change very soon. We should also remember that illicit drug use is illegal. It is a crime that has criminal penalties.

I think it's time that we get serious about the problem of illegal drug users abusing our public assistance system in West Virginia. We should require random drug testing for every individual receiving welfare, food assistance or unemployment benefits. After all, more and more employers are requiring drug testing. Why not make sure that people who are supposed to be looking for work are already prequalified by being drug free?
What about the children? Won't denying welfare to druggie parents hurt the children?
Opponents claim that this legislation will hurt the children. Evidence clearly indicates that drug addicted parents are the ones truly inflicting the harm. This bill actually helps to protect the children. Someone who fails a drug test will be given two months to get clean before assistance is cut off. Any good parent would clearly choose their children’s best interest over illegal drugs.
This, from a West Virginia man who swapped food stamps for drugs...
“Some are criticizing this bill, saying it makes the statement if you receive these types of benefits you use drugs,” the St. Albans man said.

“In my experience, the majority of these people do. This bill could help children that are living in a home where this is taking place to get their parents back.”
Doesn't the "new" food stamps, the card-based system, combat the illegal swapping or trading of this benefit? Not so much...
Caldwell and his wife, Mitzi, also told reporters anyone on food stamps can let a drug dealer use his card in exchange for illegal narcotics, and no merchant is the wiser.

“Definitely,” Mitzi Caldwell said. “You can take anybody’s card into any grocery store or Go Mart or Wal-Mart, whatever. The only thing it has is your name on it. And they don’t even ask for nothing. You just swipe the card, put in your PIN, and go.”

Her husband added, “As long as you have the PIN number, you can use the card.”
So even drug users realize that they are harming their own children first. This bill is FOR THE CHILDREN!

What about civil libertarian's concerns?
As for the constitutional issue, it has never been considered by the US Supreme Court. Furthermore, “Big Brother” already invades welfare recipient’s lives by requiring proof of need via payroll receipts and bank account information. Interestingly enough, employees can get fired from their job for drug usage, yet receive unemployment compensation benefits which in turn drives up the cost of employer paid unemployment premiums.

In essence, I believe that this bill will be constitutional. Opponents of this bill are either enablers of bad (illegal) behavior, drug abusers or the most despicable of all...have a personal financial interest/gain in the demise of a certain segment of our society. And, they’ve yet to offer a viable alternative to this legislation.
Is it finally time to require drug Testing for Public Assistance? I hope so, but won't hold my breath. There's too many lefties who's political careers depend on the dependent class to give them votes. To attempt to 'clean up' the dependent class might cost them votes. Just look at the left - liberal uproar over then-President Clinton's Welfare Reform legislation, and President Obama's quick reversal of that. Now, in this current political climate, we see social welfare as a right, not a privilege; and certainly not to be tied to personal behavior.

China wants the Dollar purged

Here it comes. The first salvo fired against the Dollar standard...

China calls for new reserve currency

By Jamil Anderlini in Beijing

Published: March 23 2009 12:16 | Last updated: March 24 2009 00:06

China’s central bank on Monday proposed replacing the US dollar as the international reserve currency with a new global system controlled by the International Monetary Fund.

In an essay posted on the People’s Bank of China’s website, Zhou Xiaochuan, the central bank’s governor, said the goal would be to create a reserve currency “that is disconnected from individual nations and is able to remain stable in the long run, thus removing the inherent deficiencies caused by using credit-based national currencies”
(normally I would snip this here, but FT made me get a subscription. I'll have twenty spam e-mails a day for months because of this; so screw 'em..here more..

Analysts said the proposal was an indication of Beijing’s fears that actions being taken to save the domestic US economy would have a negative impact on China.

“This is a clear sign that China, as the largest holder of US dollar financial assets, is concerned about the potential inflationary risk of the US Federal Reserve printing money,” said Qu Hongbin, chief China economist for HSBC.

Would I be correct in saying that we are so far in debt to China that saying 'bugger off' is out of the question? That the multiple trillions of dollars we've printed out of thin air is largely backed by foreign capital? That we are, in fact, so 'owned' by the Chinese to such an extent that, with a word, they could push us over the edge to insolvency and collapse? The rest..

To replace the current system, Mr Zhou suggested expanding the role of special drawing rights, which were introduced by the IMF in 1969 to support the Bretton Woods fixed exchange rate regime but became less relevant once that collapsed in the 1970s.

Today, the value of SDRs is based on a basket of four currencies – the US dollar, yen, euro and sterling – and they are used largely as a unit of account by the IMF and some other international organisations.

China’s proposal would expand the basket of currencies forming the basis of SDR valuation to all major economies and set up a settlement system between SDRs and other currencies so they could be used in international trade and financial transactions.

Countries would entrust a portion of their SDR reserves to the IMF to manage collectively on their behalf and SDRs would gradually replace existing reserve currencies.

Mr Zhou said the proposal would require “extraordinary political vision and courage” and acknowledged a debt to John Maynard Keynes, who made a similar suggestion in the 1940s.

Keynesian economic. Figures, that totalitarian China would embrace Keynes. Bring on Centralized Planning while you're at it.

In addition to Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, it's helpful to read Fredrich Hayek's The Road to Serdom. From a review at Amazon..
Hayek's thesis was that central economic planning will inevitably lead to governmental control of every facet of its citizen's life, and hence toward a totalitarian state. Hayek's other insightful observations: Nazism, Fascism and communism all have the same roots. In a totalitarian state, it is always the ruthless and the unsophisticated who ascend to the top. Extensive governmental control harms the society not just in delivering dismal economic results, but, more seriously, it produces a psychological change, an alteration in the character of the people.
China's desire to 'push us' over the edge is counterbalanced by their (relatively) new prosperity, their 'touch of capitalism'. Is that enough to prevent them from a mutually assured economic meltdown, if they do seek to topple the dollar, causing our collapse?

Remember, they were Communist long before they became..WalMartitized. Now, they are, what, exactly? Not like us, that's for sure.

If they do (inadvertently or otherwise) bring down the U.S. economy, then it's not so far they have to fall to return to their 'roots'. We've much farther, and would enjoy that slide much less.

We'll see. April 2, the G-20 Summit convenes; these opening salvos by China will certainly be under discussion.

When We Encounter a Piddle of Pontificated Poppycock.. UPDATED

..it's best to put it in it's Place.

This, from an earlier thought.

OH, and the famous four words.

Can you dig it????

UPDATED

This take on the unfortunate, but necessary, incident that's enveloped two principle Conservative blogs for what, two weeks or more? left as a comment to tgirsh's open thread at TFree. (Now, I may have some details out of place, but forgive me; I'm not expert, and really not but barely conversant on the fields mentioned. But, I'm learning more and more as time goes on. Which is all one can expect, no?)
Since you declared ‘Open Thread’ and all (that seems to be an Eschaton - Atrios - Duncan Black favorite post topic, and may be patented) you should probably know a little about what’s going on in the right blogosphere. Particularly, between Patterico (Patrick Frey) and Jeff Goldstein of Protein Wisdom (my favorite blog, if you haven’t noticed).

Jeff’s a linguist, with a Master’s in Lit Crit; and is a postmodernist specializing in semiotics. Jeff’s spent years lecturing and writing on the importance of the author’s or speaker’s intent at the time when his or her words were uttered or written, and the hazards of allowing a possibly hostile reader - listener to hijack the intent and change the meaning of the author - speaker. Much as we saw with leftys hijacking the meaning of Rush’s famous four words, taking them out of context and using them to malign both Rush and Republicans, serving their own political - propaganda purposes.

Of course that’s way simplified. You can find links to all of that in my last post.

Patterico, a Deputy District Attorney in L.A. (one who has done great work tearing down the LA Times, and exposing Gleen Greenwald’s multiple sockpuppets, all the while throwing criminals behind bars in his day job) took much offense at Rush’s four words. He, and Allahpundit of HotAir fame, took it on themselves to chastise Rush for his four words; thereby allowing the leftys to succeed at their wordjacking. No, no, no.

Jeff e-mailed Michelle Malkin, who gave him his first HotAir exposure. That went over very well (although some of the reader’s heads asploded, as Jeff barely toned down his admittedly academic approach to the matter).

Thing really got strange there, for awhile; Patterico put Jeff on a ’show trial’; there was much back-and-forth between the two camps (who share commenters to an extent) and PW actually was pulled down last night.

It’s back up now. But this episode shows the extent of the divide in the factions of the ‘right’. Jeff self-identifies as a Classical Liberal (which, today, is much closer to Conservatism, as so-called ‘liberals’ are really leftists, far-leftists at that.)

The fascinating thing about Jeff’s work in intent and anti-Derrida postmodernism is that his work in semiotics can help both left and right keep the meaning of ‘words’ (defined as what makes humans..well, human) from becoming hijacked from the author’s - speaker’s intent; the result of which is fascism.

Read Jeff’s HotAir post. I think it’s Post of the Year. So far.
Since I pulled Patterico's site from my sidebar, you'll have to visit Jeff's latest post to get his take on the matter. Or visit RS McCain (also linked under the pshop above) for more of that.

Hopefully, this kerfuffle will Patter out soon. I can't see it turning out will for Patterico, as in his latest thread, most of his commenters are telling him (more politely than would I) to STFU already. Is it too late for that?

I hope not. But, recall, Andrew Sullivan was once considered a true Conservative, before he...turned. Oleander side up, unfortunately.

Quiz Time.

Quantum of Solace DVD hits the shelves on Tuesday. I had planned to sit in a theater and watch it, but never got around to it.

Glad I waited. I hate sticky cave floors.

Iowahawk: "Let's Hear it For the Tards" (where we on the right continue to 'beat up' on The ONE!)

Here we go; Iowahawk has dished up another Marine-style knifing (insert, twist, extract) to honor U. S. President Barack Hussein Obama's 'Special Olympics' macaca moment. Snippy..

Dear Barry:

Our 12 year old son Tyler is developmentally disabled. Tyler's learning center has a Special Olympics program and we (along with his teachers) have been encouraging him to participate. Every time we bring it up to him, however, Tyler pushes back and becomes very withdrawn. We love Tyler very much and don't want to force him into it, but we think the Special Olympics would be a terrific experience and help him conquer his shyness and introversion. Do you have any suggestions for helping him get past this fear?

Jean and Ted in Westmont

Dear Jean and Ted:

As you know I am a big fan of the Special Olympics program, and all the good things it does for young Mongoloid-Americans like your son. Nothing inspires more than the sight of these heroic young tards hilariously giving it their all in the arena of friendly athletic competition. Extra-chromosome? More like extra-awesome! That's why I recently volunteered, on the advice of my damage control team, as an equipment manager for the U.S. Special Olympics bowling squad. At first I wasn't sure how I would feel about polishing other people's balls for a change, but I think those tards really appreciate what I've done for them. Lately they started calling me "Special O."

Read the rest. Check out Iowahawk's archives; you won't be disappointed.

Does anyone (else) wonder why Barry O's getting such attention? (Well, Allahpundit is wondering why, but he's just a bit confused right now.) Why are Conservatives and Classical Liberals mocking and 'beating up on The One for a very mildly politically incorrect joke'?

ummm…teh hypocrisy?
1) Here.
2) Here.
3) Here.
4) Here.
5) Here.

And, when he’s done apologizing for himself or having others apologize to him, he has the unmitigated gall to apologize for the U.S.

This is getting better and better every day! A freakshow, you 52 percentards have given U.S.

Thanks! No, really, Thanks! Between Obama and Biden, we'll never lack for quality humor -- from the President and Vice-President of the United States no less! Leno, Letterman, SNL, you guys helped elect this team..never knew you'd be electing your own competition, now did you?

Special Olympics Presents: Our "Special" President

**
(Red-faced? RACIST!!11!!1!)

Dan Collins is particularly repulsed..
I’ve sometimes indulged in rough humor, and pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable. I acknowledge that I’ve offended people’s sensibilities. I just can’t see myself making that kind of a joke, though, even among friends, even among drunk friends, much less in the person of the POTUS to a national television audience.
Hmmph. Imagine had George Bush said something of this nature.

Heh. "Andrew Sullivan"
Comment by Andrew Sullivan on 3/20 @ 6:06 am

Damn, Andrew must be speaking of our illustrious President. This time.

Who else could be so gaffe prone?

G-20 Summit: Are we nearing the retirement of the Dollar?

Lovely Ann Coulter e-mailed me with a linky to Human Events (a Conservative weekly that's unfortunately not getting my subscription monies, but I appreciate the offer) where I found this essay by Thomas P. Kilgannon..

Will Obama (Inter)Nationalize the Banks?

With the mortgage and credit markets at the root of the economic crisis, Obama’s next move may be to nationalize U.S. banks. So, if you are enjoying the President’s massive expansion of the federal government; his staggering accumulation of red ink; and the fed’s interference in private industry --just wait -- Obamanomics is about to go global. His path to nationalizing banks is only a step toward the ultimate goal of internationalizing U.S. banks.

...

G-20 leaders are also expected to adopt a single “global standard” for accounting rules. Multinational banks and Fortune 500 companies will be required to follow international standards, and family-owned businesses in the United States may soon have to hire Brussels-based bookkeepers. This week G-20 finance ministers agreed to “take whatever action is necessary” to boost the economy -- the same words Mr. Obama used to justify his multi-trillion dollar spending spree. In that spirit, the finance ministers pledged a massive funding increase for the International Monetary Fund -- up to $500 billion -- a ten-fold increase.
I've read that Russia wants a new global currency. China (who now practically has U.S. by the throat; at a word from them, our economy might completely collapse) has made noises to that effect as well. We know that the dollar's been the World Standard currency for decades but that's not going to last. We've created so much new money that the dollar is practically worthless. The euro, that upstart on the Continent, made rapid advances to eclipse the dollar; now, it too is soft. The next logical (to One Worlder sorts, of course) step is to a worldwide currency.

More..
Bernanke said the U.S. must create a national institution which “regulates the financial system as a whole, in a holistic way, not just its individual components.” This will come in one of two forms -- a new federal bureaucracy, or a Federal Reserve with vastly expanded powers. Either way, it means the Obama administration is complying with the G-20’s mandate to create a “regulatory system [that] is compatible with a modern and increasingly globalized financial system.” It’s time to say good-bye to your friendly neighborhood banker.
Is there anything that any of us, as Citizens of this rapidly devolving Republic, can do to reverse the trend to socialism and worldwide integration that is unmistakeably evident to any who care to look?

I dunno, folks. We've come to a point in our history where there's so little a good man or woman can do to stop what's coming..we need Thomas Paine, we need Common Sense.

We need plenty of rope.

Teleprompter O! 'Blunder

You can walk a dog to a creek, but you can't make a boy give him a bath..No, wait. My 'prompter is on the fritz..that should be..

A teleprompt blunder has led to Barack Obama thanking himself in a speech at the White House in a St Patrick's Day celebration.

Have you noticed the Brits are starting to needle our Pres, just a bit? Obama's becoming sort of a bust over there, it seems.
Mr Obama is an accomplished orator but is becoming known in America as the "teleprompt president" over his reliance on the machine when he gives a speech.
Well, he has to rely on something. Governance, leadership, those qualities are evasive. Maybe with practice?

Naaaah.

But give him a insensate community to organize, and you've your man. Or dog. Whatever.

Hey, this Star Wars thingy is funny. Sort of. And, I'm busy this week...

AIG: Contracts are killing 'em, not Senator Seppuku

AIG has to pay out those troublesome executive retention bonuses, because they are contractually obligated to do so. These bonuses are a fraction of the $170 billion in taxpayer bailout monies that AIG recieved, then turned around and paid out to banks and other 'investment partners, those who suffered most from the financial meltdown.

Now, we hear this great squalling sound coming from Washington D.C.; from Obama, from the House and Senate, and from average Americans who don't understand why we've given money to AIG, just to see it go to..fulfill contractual obligations.

Sorry, folks, that's the way AIG has always been run; it's business, and simply stated the bonus money has to be paid out. It's called a contract; a legal obligation.

There's a great clamor for the Government, for somebody, to do something; to take this money away from these evil AIG employees who obviously don't deserve it.  Obama of the New Telepromptocracy is moving to cancel these bonus, to recall this money. But they can't..
The government agreed to uphold those contracts when it seized control of American International Group in September. It argued that failing to repay the debts of the globally interconnected company could cause catastrophic losses at big international banks, potentially toppling the financial system.

Scrutiny of AIG's dealings with its trading partners comes after revelations over the weekend that the insurer planned to pay out tens of millions in executive bonuses. President Barack Obama on Monday accused AIG of "recklessness and greed." He pledged to try to block the bonuses, which AIG insisted it's contractually obligated to pay.

...

Obama's aggressive stance toward the AIG bonuses raises the question of whether the government could also pursue the billions paid to AIG's trading partners. Under growing scrutiny from Congress, AIG on Sunday finally identified those trading partners that indirectly benefited the most from its bailout.

Among the largest recipients, Goldman Sachs received $12.9 billion; Merrill Lynch got $6.8 billion. AIG also funneled billions into foreign banks, including $11.8 billion to Germany's Deutsche Bank and $8.5 billion to Britain's Barclays PLC.

Asked if he'd favor trying to see if those AIG contracts could be broken so the government could recover some of those payouts, Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, stopped short of endorsing the idea. But he said "that's something that has to be examined."
Examine this, Barney Frank: why are you still in office, spluttering about with your financial pronouments and desires to fire bonus recipients, when you were so deep in the muck and most likely at the bottoms of the Freddie-Fannie debacles?

Republicans are outraged as well. Senator Chuck Grassley..
"I suggest, you know, obviously maybe they ought to be removed, but I would suggest that the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better towards them [is] if they would follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say I'm sorry and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide."
Come on, Senator, seppuku amongst the Bushido was suicide for the purpose of honor retention. Lose your bowels, retain your honor. There's not much honor surrounding money, really. Or politics.

I'd rather see the Bushido code of honor established in our House and Senate. At least we'd have turnover. And once a politician's honor is lost and The Code upheld, we wouldn't have to hear from those purposeless idiots anymore.

And that would be a good thing.

"She's got Leggs.." (Rule 5 Sunday, milquetoast version)

How much hell did I catch for last week's entry? Well, PhotoBucket dropped the image from circulation (somebody's granny saw it and complained I suppose) but Blogger ran it with no problems. It was down for several hours before I reloaded. FreakingNews gave it a 'Gold Star'.

This week, I've things to do, so it's back to my own stuff..this one from the Titan's season opener last year, a win vs. Jacksonville (that strange game wherein Vince Young had his dubious collapse from sanity, and embraced disgrace..he'll not play again, I don't think. We should've taken Jay Cutler in that '06 draft like I wanted. Thanks, Bud Adams, you stubborn, revengeful old galoot.)

Oh, well. Water under the gams.

These from the Titans-Cardinals game played in Tempe in October '05. I wasn't blogging back then. Or even reading blogs. But I've always appreciated Cheerleaders. )

Obama's Cluelessness, part 157: ONE! wants wounded Vets to pay for their treatments with private funds.

No kidding, this latest stupidity from the Obama Kamp is just another reason to view the current administration with much disdain..
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance.
Eric Shinseki, you recall, retired as a 4-Star general officer after clashing with the Bush White House in 2003. A quote from General Eric in 2003: "I do not want to criticize while my soldiers are still bleeding and dying in Iraq." Sounds good, General (Ret.), but rationalize the sentiments expressed in that earlier quote with this outlandish proposal trotted out by your Commander in Chief, this inexplicable and "dead on arrival" proposal that's been flushed out of the bowl of the Oval Office. I recall the quote from another Democrat President 'Ah loathes the military'; this proposal fits better in that noxious context than in yours, Eric (Gen. (Ret.)) Shinseki. Sleep well at night, you hear?

Yes, DOA, this proposal. Let's keep an eye on this, and see which Democrats want to sign on.

As Jeff G said,
"Well, that's one way to try to downsize the military. Plus, it’s the next best thing to billing families for the bullets."

The 50-Day Presidential Photo

(Fixed, of course...)

The original at Time's White House Photo Blog.

Original caption: "Important Announcement President Obama arrives in the East Room of the White House to sign an Executive Order on stem cells and a Presidential Memorandum on scientific integrity."

Photographer's unspoken caption: 'Our poor, beleaguered president (who is just trying to do the work of the American People, dammit!) faces evil and unseen Rethuglican forces as he strides forth to do the job we good Progressives elected him to do. LEAVE BARACK ALONE!'

My caption: "Ummm...Policies, Fail. And, get some meat on them bones. You're a bit thin."

Shoe-tossing Iraqi Reporter gets 3 years in Prison, instead of the Shredder

He's lucky. President Bush gave Iraq a change in leadership; the prior Iraqi administration would not have needed to have a 'trial' ..

Iraqi journalist who threw shoes gets 3 years

...Muntadhar al-Zeidi, 30, pleaded not guilty to the charge and said his action was a "natural response to the occupation."

Some of his relatives collapsed after the verdict and had to be helped out of court. Others were forcibly removed by security forces when they became unruly, shouting "Down with Bush" and "Long live Iraq."

Al-Zeidi could have received up to 15 years in prison...
"Down with Bush", eh? Somebody needs to tell somebody that Bush is down in Texas right now, watching his successor shred the economy.

Related: Some dead man threw a shoe at Iranian President Ahmadinejad.

My prediction: Gordon Brown will hurl a shoe full of bad American DVD's and plastic prop toys at Barack Obama during the upcoming G20 summit. Because there's nothing like 'repairing relations abroad' like snubbing our best ally.

Stay classy, Baracky.

Something I've been messing around with, for the Outlaw! group.

It may be a bit dark. There's that noosey, edgy theme, but not overstrung I don't think. There's no sense of panicked retreat, a flight in fright, either. A slow, laconic pace; a glance over the shoulder, a glint of steel at the waist..

Don't even think about hanging this dude. )

Cigarettes and Smoking and Nicotine, oh my!

A new federal tax on cigarettes is putting pressure on smokers to quit. But, you've gotta pay for Obama's S-CHIP legislation somehow.
The federal tax increase affects all tobacco products, but loose tobacco is facing the most significant change — from a $1.10 per pound tax to a whopping $24.78 per pound tax.
Let the whining begin...
But it’s simply unfair to place the entirety of this burden on the shoulders of tobacco users through such a massive tax increase. According to the Center for Disease Control, 20.8 percent of all American adults smoke, but 30.6 percent of adults below the poverty line are smokers. This means that this massive tax increase disproportionately impacts the individuals who are least able to afford it. Lower-income individuals also have the greatest difficulty in reducing their use of tobacco because they cannot easily afford products like nicotine patches that might help them overcome their addictions. And according to the American Lung Association, about 20 percent of college students smoke. These taxes, then, also fall to cash-strapped college students for whom smoking is an addiction — not something they can just give up due to rising costs.
Oh, come on! Who else should pay for children's health programs?

Smoking is maddeningly difficult to quit. Obama can't; just look at our illustrious butt-sucking president. Here we have the Smartest Man in the World, relying on the notion that smokers must continue smoking no matter how onerous the tax burden, to fund a piece of his liberal agenda. Fine.

I've already quit.

Suck on that, O!
An alternative: Electronic Cigarettes!

UPDATE:

Damn. I stepped in it.

What happens next?

HotAir posts Jeff Goldstein's take on Rush Limbaugh's "I Hope He Fails."

Here's a post wherein you can sink your teeth. A Classical Liberal's take on the Left's intentional misuse of Rush's now-famous four words - those four words that our whimsical President found annoying (words that presented just another opportunity-knocking  challenge for Rham Emmanuel; an opportunity to vaporize the GOP's fragile structure: let the infighting begin!). An opportunity to create a distraction: while Obama gropes for a solution to an economic crisis he's incapable of understanding (please, just let the little guy finish his waffle! don't you know there's stem cells what needs killing? this economic stuff is far beyond his pay grade!) much less managing, his brain-trust siezed on Rush's four words to ignite the always-whining Democrat base, and flushed out some not-so conservative 'conservatives', and bloggers who've proceeded to feast on each other's tails.

Quite a feat, based on four words.

Jeff Goldstein forces those four words back into their contextual continuity. Something the media should've been able to do without a second thought; if they were, you know, unbiased. Instead, media and written opinion writers fanned the flames. Flames that enveloped the right side of the blogosphere: Patterico, Ace, HotAir's Allah, and others on one side; Jeff Goldstein &c. who correctly believe that we can 'give no quarter  to those who would hijack our language!' on the other.

A quick snippet..
Leaving aside for the moment the impossibly high standard that comes with demanding that a man who speaks mostly extemporaneously for fifteen hours a week need be so careful with his phrasings that they cannot be removed from their context and made to mean what they clearly weren’t intended to mean, except by great effort on the part of those whose aim it is to misrepresent intent, the subtext of such an argument is twofold: 1) by being more judicious with our words, we are providing those who are out to misrepresent us with a smaller target; and 2) that something less provocative will not alienate us with those we are hoping to win over to conservatism by appearing to them ugly or hostile — that as a strategy, being more solicitous about how we phrase things will help make conservatism more appealing, or at least, less revolting to those who remain undecided about their political allegiances.

...

All of which brings us back to those conservative political realists and pragmatists now criticizing Rush over his impolitic (or unclear) remarks: their desire for Limbaugh to be more careful with his phrasings as a way to avoid being misrepresented in a soundbite culture is, frankly, a fool’s game — and, even more frankly, it is indicative of a political strategy that amounts to conceding loss, with the concomitant hope that perhaps we’ll lose more slowly.

...

To put it more forcefully, it is a fact of language that once you surrender the grounds for meaning to those who would presume to determine your meaning for you, you are at their mercy.
Which is right where Big Government proponents want us to be.

Read the post, please. We must not allow those who would hijack our words from context and twist their meaning, to succeed. Even the modern far-left-liberals should have some problems with that, if they have any intellectual honesty left whatsoever.

Oh, and...OUTLAW!

Actually, Obama had his Illinois machine pal Durbin introduce legislation designed to eventully get Limbaugh’s show kicked off of some stations. It has passed the Senate.

It amounts to a Bill of Attainder. Think about it; the president denouncing you personally and passing legislation aimed specifically at your business–it’s like Hugo Chavez without the parrot.

Keith Olbermann: Show Prep

So, which do you like better, the Motivator Poster or the stand-alone pshop?

(Great guy, Keith Olbermann..padded his education stats, did you know that?. Ivy league, huh, Keith? Try "Cornell Agricultural School". Not that Cornell, but the other one, the one with the barns... )

Figures. He's always excelled at shoveling horseshit.

Rush Limbaugh's OBAMA SHOULD FAIL comments: Clearly, it's NOT a matter on which we should suffer misinterpretation.

One of the pithiest posts ever to grace the 'net. Patterico, a practicing Los Angeles District Attorney, and a respected legal blogger; squares off against Jeff Goldstein, a writer, intellectual, and the web's go-to authority on intentionalism and the use (and misuse) of language and the written word to portray (and, in the hands of our wonderfully neutral media, to mangle) whatever meaning an author or speaker intended. Jeff Goldstein..
Some folks are going to hear what they want to hear. But you know what? It’s time to make them feel stupid for being stupid — not empowering their stupidity by pandering to it.

To read the post is in your best interest. Trust me on this. To read the comments for extra credit will well be worth your time.

Barack Obama promises the Unions that 'Card Check' will pass: another blow to our economy

This troubled economy needs words of encouragement right now, not more of BHO's fulfilling promises to his Union campaign supporters. These promises are little more than left-of-center, economy-destroying measures that will continue to prolong our agonizing economic downturn. Truly, Barack Obama is clueless as to what has made America great for well over two centuries.

Oh, and in related news, Union-throttled General Motors Corporation is poised for bankruptcy.

From the Wall Street Journal..

President Tells Unions Organizing Act Will Pass

MIAMI -- President Barack Obama told AFL-CIO union leaders Tuesday in a videotaped address that the controversial Employee Free Choice Act will pass, signaling his full backing for legislation that makes union organizing easier.

"We will pass the Employee Free Choice Act," President Obama told more than 100 top labor officials in a closed-door meeting at the labor federation's winter gathering in Miami, according to people at the meeting.

The bill would make it easier for unions to recruit workers because it would let them join unions simply by signing cards rather than through secret-ballot elections in which companies can campaign against the union. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business organizations have been campaigning against the legislation.

Secret-ballot elections: not good. Secret-closed door meetings where BHO salves Union knobs: just fine.

Oh, not suprising, the AFL-CIO now wants our nations' banks nationalized..because, you see, our money will then be in Government hands. Just where they want it to be.
...the AFL-CIO is expected to ask the administration to take a controlling stake in banks that receive government funding and a more active role in restructuring their balance sheets. "We believe the debate over nationalization is delaying the inevitable bank restructuring, which is something our economy cannot afford,"
Any bank that is nationalized will not be involved in my life, I'll tell you that. CitiGroup, Bank of America, if you have to be nationalized, then see ya. Well, for CitiGroup it's a done deal. They are worth $10B on the market; we've given them $45B.
The U.S. government is standing at a crossroads. Should it temporarily squash the spirit of the free market in order to let the economy get through the crisis, or should it protect the free market and let the economy suffer the pain? The scariest thought is that even after squashing the free market spirit, it will still suffer pain. Relatively speaking, nationalization is really the riskiest choice.
That quote from CHINA news agency Xinhuanet. Does it surprise you that even a known Communist State media mouthpiece opines more wisely than the AFL-CIO and our current Democrat leadership?

What our economy can't afford, you Consortium of Liberal Union Thugs, is more and more left-wing executive policy-mucking in areas where it has no sense of how business operates. There's a downturn because we've seen too much Government interference; feeble attempts to correct perceived social 'injustices' by mucking up the strong borrower-strong lender policies (Carter's Community Investment Act was the smoking gun behind all of our housing ills).

It gets worse. This, from General Motors..

General Motors Corp said it has substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern in its annual report released on Thursday, increasing the gloom in global markets.

If we (the company) will be unable to continue as going concern, we could be forced to seek relief through filing under U.S. bankruptcy code,” GM added.

The company proposed additional loans from the U.S. government and hopes to receive loans of up to $7.7 billion, the statement added.

I've said before: let them fail. Let the Union contracts be rewritten, written out. It's the only way to be sure.

Here, in Smyrna, we have a thriving Nissan manufacturing facility, with absolutely no Union contracts. Next door, in La Vergne, we find Bridgestone Tire, chock-full of choking Unions, having to lay employees off. In Spring Hill, the 'Saturn' plant is yet to put out a vehicle. Will they ever?

Unions choke businesses. For Barack Obama, to speak as he did yesterday to the AFL-CIO, proves he is nothing more than a clueless moonbat.

BHO is slowly but surely killing our economy.

Lamar Alexander sides with Democrats on McCain's Amendment to strip 8500 earmarks from the Omnibus Budget Bill

McCain Loses Fight Over Earmarks

The Senate just defeated an amendment, 63 to 32, by Senator John McCain that would have maintained federal agency spending at last year’s levels and deprived lawmakers of nearly 9,000 in earmarks.

Mr. McCain, Republican of Arizona and a longtime foe of pet projects tucked into spending bills, has been bashing the bill under consideration — a $410 billion omnibus spending proposal — that would finance governmental spending through Sept. 30 of this year. The amendment that was just rejected would have jettisoned the omnibus bill and frozen spending levels.

...

Nine Republicans voted with Democrats against Mr. McCain’s amendment: Senators Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Robert Bennett of Utah, Christopher Bond of Missouri, Thad Cochran of Mississippi, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Richard Shelby of Alabama, Olympia Snowe of Maine and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.

Obama's Crash: an opportunity for CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Click to embiggen.

We've passed every downturn in depth of loss except for that big one.

But, just think of how much extra crisis Rham Emanuel and his daddy gets to fill with happy, happy, lefty programs!

And, CHANGE!!111!!!!!!!

Rush refers to White House Press Corp as "Butt-Boys". Well, the truth (and without vaseline, a big stick) does hurt...

Except, of course, for Jake Tapper. Who is "outside the Butt-Boy Bubble."

Now wait just a minute, Rush. You're gonna cause a fight. Keith Olbermann and that twitchy leg dude from MSNBC are gonna get jealous.

There's only so much vaseline to go around..

CNBC's Jim Cramer: "Greatest Wealth-Destruction By a President" (well, gotta keep a good crisis pumped, now don't we?)

Rush Limbaugh vs. the World (well, not the world, just the liberal Left and the pansy RINO Right...you listening, Michael Steele?) UPDATE: Jindal, IN

In case you've been in a cave and missed it, Rush Limbaugh delivered The Speech at CPAC's closing on Saturday. THE Speech that our leadership Republican sissies (well, not the Republicans in the HOUSE, who voted three times against Obama's plan to destroy our economy (he's succeeding), led by putative Republican Leader Michael Steele (or so he says), have since tried to keep at arm's length. The problem with that is, as usual, RUSH IS RIGHT.

Quickly, now: Rush states, again and correctly, that Obama's failed economic policies should, well, fail, for the sake of the nation. Again, the media and the left (same thing, really) claim that Rush wants Obama, personally, to fail (if Obama does fail, personally, and I don't see how, given his marital circumstance, he could avoid failing; for that, there's Viagra.. ).

Michael Steele, Saturday night on one of those CNN shows, says "I'm the de facto leader of the Republican Party." And "Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh, the whole thing is entertainment. Yes, it's incendiary, yes, it's ugly --" We've already spoken of Ugly, Michael.

Of course, Rush has perfect rebuttal, yesterday, on his show...
A Few Words for Michael Steele

Okay, so I am an entertainer, and I have 20 million listeners, 22 million listeners because of my great song-and-dance routines here. Yes, said Michael Steele, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, I'm incendiary, and yes, it's ugly. Michael Steele, you are head of the RNC. You are not head of the Republican Party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the RNC and right now they want nothing to do with it, and when you call them asking them for money, they hang up on you. I hope that changes. I hope the RNC will get its act together. I hope the RNC chairman will realize he's not a talking head pundit, that he is supposed to be working on the grassroots and rebuilding it, and maybe doing something about our open primary system and fixing it so that Democrats do not nominate our candidates. It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of trying to be some talking head media star, which you're having a tough time pulling off. I hope you figure out how to run a primary system. But it seems to me that it's Michael Steele who is off to a shaky start.

...

Mr. Steele, your spokesman sounds like the RNC wants 'em to fail, to me. You're opposing 'em. You say the American people are growing weary of it, getting suspicious of it. But it's not just Pelosi's spending. It's Obama's. Where are your guts? Why can't you tie Obama to these policies? They're his! Where are your guts?
And he puts that certain skewer right into Mr. Steele's nethers. Right where Steele deserves it.

Because it's the gutless Republicans who have caused this nation's nightmares. By nominating a fool like McCain. By trying to be chummy with the Enemy, the Left: Obama, Pelosi, Reid, that crew of nation wreckers. We knew Obama wanted CHANGE, he said so. CHANGE, as defined by Obama, was not a direction or a magnitude, but a general whimsical word that hid his true nature: to drive the U.S. to a Socialist - European model. A model that's contrary to our Constitution.

We are going down, folks. What we were is very close to being relegated to history. Even though it's spearheaded by those on the left, there's plenty of blame to spread to Republicans, who've by inaction and by incorrect action have enabled our enemies.
Bobby Jindal makes up for his lackluster speech (you know, the one following Obama’s undefined collective House-Senate BJ last week..)

Morrissey finally gets it right. The Country is not Obama. If Obama fails, the Country will carry on. If Obama succeeds, that’s when the Country will fail.

Angela Saunders with Coloured Balls: Rule 5 Sunday

Dan Collins tries to get into the act, linking to Robert Stacy McCain's post on the CPAC Youth Movement (suck on that, NYT!). But RSM pleads tired, sleepy, so no Rule 5 goodness until later this afternoon; and I've a gun show to attend, so here's...

But wait! I've post processed this image (originally came to me in junk e-mail, in a PPS file), to give an unusual effect. No, no bright blue balls, but I'm partial to stripes over solids anyways. Nine-ball and Rotation Pool over 8-ball any day.

There's a million of these images floating around the web, but none what looks like this.
