Jeff Fisher is out as the Titans head coach; with a 16 year tenure, the longest in current NFL history. Gone, after a late-January surprise 'firing' by mutual agreement, or so it seems: a mutual agreement. Eight million dollars of Bud Adam's walking-around money to not coach the Titans in 2011.
Bud Adams remains as Titans' owner, unfortunately.
Hmmmph. If the Titans win three games in the next two seasons, I'll be amazed. We're sitting here, fat, dumb and unhappy, with no head coach, no starting QB (at least the Titans' Front Office has decided NOT to bring back the brain-damaged Vince Young) and a seemingly demoralized fan base. Mike Munchak, the OL coach, is spoken of as the front-runner; but I hear tantalizing rumors that Jon Gruden might be considered. That would be my choice; I like Gruden.
I expect Fish to sit out the 2011 season, take a break, maybe do some fishing with Brett Favre. Then, if there is actually a 2011 season, next January there will again be many head coach firings and vacancies; Jeff Fisher will be the top-listed favorite replacement by many teams. Redskins' owner Daniel Snyder would open his deep pockets; as would Dallas' Jerry Jones. There might be a duel between those two to get first bids.
Or, if the Chargers move to Los Angeles, Fisher would be a natural to take that coaching position. That would put him close to home, to USC, his old stomping grounds.
In any event, we'll keep track of Jeff Fisher.
As for the Titans, it's cellar-dweller time in the AFC South.

My heart is sad to hear that Jeff Fisher has left the Titans.
ReplyDeleteWell Bud, I hope this comes back and bites you on the a**....
Good Luck Jeff for what you tried to do for the Titans.
Any team in the NFL well be more than happy to give you a job...
Who?
ReplyDeleteDoes this have anything to do with the big Stackers vs. Peelers thing i hear people talkin' 'bout?
He'll be just fine, RNC; prolly better off than will the Titans in the short term.
ReplyDeleteRead this by Mike Florio, on PacMan's comments about Fisher' Firing...
“I have no idea why they [fired him],” Jones told Yahoo! Sports. “It’s gotta be the dumbest move ever. But that’s how they do things in Tennessee. It can be very weird down there.”
Frankly, the best proof that the Titans do dumb things is that they hired Jones. Coming out of West Virginia, Jones had more red flags than a Chinese military parade, and yet the Titans devoted to Jones the sixth pick in the 2005 draft.
An aside, I've read Florio longer than I've read anyone else on the web, back when he had just a few readers and a crappy single page-blog. He's hit the big time just recently with NBC.
elfrhoid, you're the little guy who spent most of his high school years stuffed in various lockers by the Varsity players; lockers half-filled with sweaty jock straps and shorts. The only time you've been in a gym was to sweep the floors and unstop the commodes.
ReplyDeleteGot a pencil? Draw some big boobs on a dwarf or something.
Here's a good pen-and-ink thinger. Just to show you I do appreciate the genre.

Mmmmm, nope. Wrong again.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, i'm not little. I'm 6'0".
Secondly, i've never been beaten up in my entire life, unless you count the fights i had with my big brother growing up, but those don't really count.
I was the guy who took biking class in school, and could routinely pedal from the 'Boro to Bellbuckle and back. Fitness is all well and good, i just have zero interest in competitive sports.
Do you ever get tired of being wrong?
Or so you say. I'm sticking with my 'you're a 5'2" (but HUGE for a dwarf!) guy who is just a bit unsure of his sexuality, but then so was that Lady Gaga thinger until she had the offending thinger cut off, ground up and powdered, cut with an 8-ball of cocaine and snorted with a group of hangers-on at an all-nighter in downtown Manhattan'.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that's not the way it went with you, but truth is always stranger than fiction, no?
Yeah, that's what i thought. Comment coward.
ReplyDeleteOn a different topic, your weird hatred of Lady Gaga intrigues me. What's so bad about her again? She's a good singer, and a flashy rock star who likes to strut around on stage in flamboyant outfits while singing about sex. So what makes her morally different than Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, or David Lee Roth?
....oh, right. She's a woman. I forgot. In your little world, women should just be Titans cheerleaders, or crooning about their man like Shania Twain. If a female entertainer is brash, weird, and making all the money, you're threatened by that somehow.
You can't even toss the "whore" label at her, like conservatives did with Madonna in the '80s, because you don't really hear about her love life very much at all.
Really, what's the problem with Gaga again? Apart from the usual conservative fear of strong women?
What in the freakin' world are you talking about?
ReplyDeleteDid you try to pass off a comment insulting the owner of this blog? That shit won't fly, you see. Go shit on your own carpets.
Lady Gaga. Did she ever find out where she hid her penis ?
